Marketing

With the company I had decided to make being a films company, that want to both promote themselves and the new animated film they have created. For this I made A film poster, web banners, launch tickets a magazine cover and finally some promotion material. This includes lighters, memory stick, Jumpers and a pens.

The magazine cover was done for 3D world magazine as a mock up to see how I could implement my character in to a real world magazine and make it work. Overall I believe the outcome of was successful to me.

The reason for me creating two different web banners was that I wanted to be able to promote my business and film within the different available placements on a webpage and not just be limited to one spot, this allows me to promote my business and film more efficiently.

The poster was done allowing me to promote my film more so than my business as well as this being a widely used way of marketing different businesses and products.

I created the launch ticket for my film, on this I incorporated both my character, character logo which was the name, and my business logo, the reason for this is that people will be able to see all 3 designs and will market the business giving me a wider range of customer loyalty.

Storyboard

This was my first rough iteration of my storyboard. The is of Darya running along the roof tops in Moscow with a tip off of someone from her past in in the building who would be able to help with her past, when she sneaks in through the roof she stealthily walks o the targeted room only to find a cline of herself.

Final Storyboard

This is a scene of the roof tops. The camera pans in towards the central building, the scene last for 3 seconds. The shot goes from a long shot to a close up.

This scene if the close up of the building, the camera is moving towards the right of the building, showing you the scape of the building and the sheer size. This scene lasts for 2 seconds

This scene is Darya running across the rooftop with the camera following her; this is a mid-shot concentrating more on the top half of her body. The scene last for 3 seconds

This is a follow on scene from the running scene showing you from a different angle this is a shot that includes depth of field whilst having Darya in focus running forwards with the camera moving with her. This scene lasts for 2 seconds.

This scene is an aerial view of the rooftop; Darya is climbing down the tope the camera follows her down. This is a long shot with the camera progressively catching her. Scene lasts for 1 second.

This is a closer shot of the aerial shot showing you Darya in a clearer detail whilst sliding down the rope; the camera is tracking her still while she slides down. The scene lasts for 1 second.

This scene is a direct follow on from the previous scene with Darya walking down the corridor making her way to the targets room. The camera pans away from Darya ever so slightly whilst she continue to walks. This scene last for 3 seconds.

This scene is a mid-shot of Darya crouch walking towards the targets room; the camera follows her with a side view perspective. This scene lasts for 3 seconds.

This is a ¾ close up shot of her hand going towards the door handle the camera follows the path of the hand. This scene lasts for 1 second.

This shot is a front view of Darya coming through the door, she moves towards the stage right this is a mid-shot with the camera staying stationary. This shot lasts for 2 seconds.

This show is another mid shot with the camera concentrating on where the action is character walking in to the frame. Scene lasts for 2 seconds.

This shot is a close of Darya holding her gun. There is depth of field going on in this scene with the gun being out of focus and her face being clear, the camera pans in towards the gun. This scene lasts for 2 seconds.

This scene is again a close up of Darya holding up her gun, the depth of field has now changed from the gun being blurred to the face, this enhances the emotion felt in the scene there is no camera movement of movement from the character in this scene. The scene lasts for 2 seconds.

This shot is another medium shot that finishes by panning in towards Darya whilst fading to black. In this scene Darya is holding up the gun to what appears to be someone who looks exactly the same as her. This scene lasts for 3 seconds.

Logo

We were asked to create a logo for the company of your choice, for this I was unsure whether I wanted a film or games company therefore looked at both industries to see how they conveyed there companies through there logos, as well as how this would tie in with my character.

These are some of my logo designs:

The image above is my final design for my logo. For this I decided to keep the colour black and white, this was to ensure that the logo would work anywhere where it has been printed. I also decided that I would keep the text quite large within the logo this meant that I would able to reduce it and you would still be able to read the company name.

Visual Communication

With initial start of this module I began to look at various different characters that I wanted to base my idea on. To begin with I looked at more manga and anime style drawings as I felt this could flow nicely with the various ideas I had in my head. First off I looked at female characters, because at this point I was unsure whether I wanted a male or female character concept, I then drew up some images that I had seen on the internet to gain more understanding of the proportions as well as to gain confidence in my drawings to get them towards a professional standard.

This is the research I want to involve in to my character and to create my different ideas:

I began looking at different types of superheroes, as well as film and game characters, the reason for this was to broaden my ideas of the character I could create. After seeing the majority of superheroes coming up being male I wanted my character to be female which inclined me to find as many female characters I needed to identify a good reference. After coming up with my initial ideas I started focusing on the type of clothing and style that would work for me. The style that I liked and thought would work was an anime type look for her. This allowed me to have the feel of something cartoon like whilst keeping a serious feel. I also began looking at different props like Staves Guns Masks and Hats. I believed could work with a possible character concept and began to test these to see whether or not I wanted to take this any further.

These drawings are warm ups allowing me to get the style of drawing I want as well as proportions and improving my skills.

I began to experiment with an anime based drawing style whilst trying to add more realistic and alien like features to my character concepts to create a more unique feel but at this stage I was still not sure what the right direction to go was.

I then started sketching out the full body and adding different clothes and different feels to the characters to broaden my work overall as well as to find a good direction.

These were three different ideas that I came up with each supporting three different backgrounds to my character, I decided from there that I would move forward with the character to the right.

Now adding colour and texture to these two different styles of characters I was beginning to sense that I had created a character that wasn’t what I had in my head, this led to me scrapping this character and referring back to my research to see how those characters were successful and how they had their unique look.

This was the character that I came up with, there were some elements that I had decided to keep from the previous concept but I modified this to look like a more modernised outlook. I then brought this character in to Photoshop to see what it would look like.

Although there will still some aspects of this character I really did like and definitely wanted to pursue forwards with the characters just jumped out at you with the feel of an anime school girl, which is something I wanted to avoid. Also I believed that with the character being a so called ‘Superhero’ the action posed lacked and real definition of the word as well as there being proportional issues.

I finally developed a character concept that I was truly happy with, I also felt that the proportions fit nicely with the style that I was going for.

I also created an action pose that I believed added a more superhero feel to her, as well as showing off the character and the way she is able to move. I then put all three of the poses in to Photoshop to colour and texture them.

This is my final character completed with colour and texture. Overall I am happy with the way this has turned out, as well as the fact that I have stuck with the anime feel, and to me this paid off. The character is an assassin in the year 2015; she is called Darya, but has no known last name, she originates from Russia where they have been modifying humans with different computer chips and metal facial parts. The reason she has a red eye is because there is a chip inside which can sensor motion all around her, as well as seeing movement in slow motion. The mask is there to allow all the different parts of the head to stay well connected and allow her to breathe.

Anatomy of the character

With my character being a human it was relatively easy to find usable references to draw up my own bone structure for my character.

This is the bone structure for my character, the only difference being the skull is around 35% aluminum and carbon fiber.
